Hopewell is very remote which I believe is part of it's charm. The drive is long and winding and only the last 15 kilometres is unsealed. You can short cut the drive by taking a water taxi across the sound or coming to Hopewell by mailboat.
Our activities are $25 per person, this is for unlimited use of kayaks, bikes and paddle boards during your stay, so you can use any of this equipment as much as you like during your stay and you will only pay $25 for all three. Our equipment is of a high standard, regularly service and well maintained.
Hopewell is a self-catering lodge and we provide a very large commercial kitchen for our guests with the best equipment and condiments for cooking. If you wish you can order pizza, which is very large, a meal for two people, with lots of toppings and costs $30.
Our WIFI is limited as it is Wireless Broadband and we cannot get an unlimited system out here, we are lucky to have any at all. We provide our guests with 1GB per person and more if they need it and very rarely charge extra. Generally the system works very well.
The Kenepuru Sound is very tidal, at low tide you can collect oysters, cockles and mussels. At high tide you can swim from the fine gravel beach or from our jetty steps. There are no white sand beaches in this Sound.
Yes we do have some sandflies, welcome to the South Island! As the summer comes and things dry out their numbers decrease greatly. We provide insect repellant for our guests.
Our rooms are small but the lounge/dining area/kitchen is large and creates a wonderful community feel and we have lots of wonderful outdoor seating areas and a large veranda area plus many hammocks hanging in the trees. It is not about your room here but about the beautiful environment, peace and quiet. It is not a place to be entertained, but to explore, kayak the sound, bike to the shipwreck or relax and chill in nature.
