Home Away from Home
Beautiful hotel run by a lovely Mexican family that guarantees to make you feel at home. Ended up spending a month at this place because I felt so much at home here. It doesn’t feel like your typical hotel, but more like a cosy complex that feels very warm and very personal. Somehow it attracts just the right kind of people.
My neighbors became my friends and then we all became like family, struggling to leave the place and move on. We organized breakfasts and dinners in the garden, or sat on the veranda of the family’s house, drinking beers and listening to Mariachi with the family. The rooms are well maintained and daily cleaned. The cleaning ladies made my mornings with their smiles and friendliness. The building is old, but that gives it its character and vibe. The rooms are basic but beautiful. They can get quite hot, so make sure to air the room and keep the fan/ air conditioning on. It’s surrounded by lots of green, palm trees and mango trees that drop their fruits in March. And there is a nice pool to chill at.
The place is ideally located surrounded by lots of interesting places to eat (El Curandero, La Morena, Comedor Tere & Los Primos Del Gringo to name a few) and get your coco frios from. In less than 15 min you are in Centro. Also a lavandería around the corner. Playa Principal, Bahia & Playa Manzanillo are in a short distance walk.
My favourite beaches, places and the Benito Juárez strip were a bit further (20-30min) but I liked my daily walks, that kept me in shape. You can also rent a scooter. If you are disabled or bad on your feet, I wouldn’t recommend this place, since there is quite the hill on the street of the hotel. Definitely a bit of a workout every day.
If you are afraid of insects, what are you doing in Mexico? You are in a tropical place, so expect to run into all sorts of creatures, no matter where you are ;)
But also lovely squirrels, hummingbirds and Iguanas. If you are looking for luxury and lots of facilities, this place is not for you.
However if you seek simplicity, warmth and a place to feel at home and at peace, look no further! Also make sure to ask Fernanda for any tips! If you are lucky she might take you for some salsa dancing at the loveliest salsa bar in town, Fauno. I cannot wait to return to this place and family one day. My Mexican home away from home.

Horrible experience, do not go here!
This place is beyond disgusting. Mould, cockroaches, uncleaned poop stains in the toilet, spider webs hanging from the ceiling (would've taken 1 minute to clean), cardboard on the windows with huge gaps for any insects or rodents to freely enter the room, ceiling ventilator about to fall out, and to top it off the staff are rude and cunning.
We were supposed to stay here for our time in Puerto Escondido, but ended up booking another hotel almost immediately upon our arrival, as our rooms were quite frankly, gross. It looks nothing like the pictures they have on the booking sites. There was actual rodent poop in one of the beds, and the doors had huge gaps both over under, leaving it free for cockroaches and other insects to enter the room - which they did. The pools were overrun with children and families with babies not wearing diapers. Not exactly the kind of water you want to take a dip in. None of the lamps had screens to cover them making the light very uncomfortable. The wifi didn't work and in one of our rooms the aircondition was over 63 decibels loud making it unbearable to use. The bathrooms obviously hadn't been cleaned, since there were hair from previous guests lying around and poop flakes in the toilet.
The family that owns the place are very inhospitable. When we voiced concerns about the unacceptable conditions they got rather angry and later called us racists and said they would report us the police. I've never experienced anything like this before, and I am honestly shocked that these people can act like that and still be on international booking websites, as they are obviously running a scam. After no sleep the first night, we went to another hotel early in the morning, where we were met by smiling staff that were very kind and helpful, luckily making the rest of our visit a lovely time.
I don't know how Hotel Posada Playa Manzanillo can continue to operate. My only advice to anyone reading this considering staying there is - do not do it.

What a disgusting hotel and terrible owners
upon arrival, we were greeted with the words we did not pay enough for our rooms. After we showed the booking form she kept saying we underpaid, we told her it was something she had to sort out with Booking.
Next was the choice of our rooms, she questioned our room choice. We should have booked other rooms. We asked her what the problem was since we paid for the rooms we booked, so what did she care if it was 1 person per room?
So much for a welcome.
Then she gave us two run-down rooms that smelled of mold with windows that had no glass, the bed squeaked, the huge television was in a huge iron cage that you hit your head to every time you walk to your closet.
No aircon. Just a very noisy ceiling fan.
Not the room we booked, we booked aircon rooms.
So back to the lady.
She practically called us liars, for she had no aircon rooms on booking, again we showed her the confirmation that said: This room has aircon and her presentation on booking. She said: You only see what you want to see. (!!??)
When we told her that maybe she checked with booking she became annoyed and gave us two aircon rooms. They were not clean and were nothing like the photos on any of the booking site or even the photo here on TripAdvisor.
She reported us for abuse. We told Booking our side of the story.
Our rooms were molded, the matrasses horrible, the pillows smelled moldy and were the cheapest you can buy at AKI supermarket, all bulky and hard.
the bedlinen thin and worn out, towels so thin they were soaked after you dried yourself. No hot water in the shower, we had to ask again for hot water.
Mud water in the toilet, dirty walls, insect poo everywhere on the floor, cobwebs in every corner, and the aircon was broken.
No daylight in my room, when you look at the presentation on every booking site they are on you see bright colorful rooms airy and modern. This is not true, Look at the photos I uploaded.
Wifi in public areas they say, but the public area is the front porch of the owner.
The pool is an elevated bathtub, very small, in the middle of not well-kept grounds, and is dirty.
After 2 sleepless nights of stink, cockroaches, and insects we checked out.
She refused to open the gate, for one key was in the room, and we should give her the key.
So my son had to go back up to his room to get the key for her before she would open the gate.
COVID, they do not wear a mask, they talk in your face maskless, the remote control is not covered with plastic and is dirty, I doubt they do anything to disinfect the rooms.
Hotel rules:
They say it is a pet-friendly place, but pets are not allowed in the room or so it says in the hotel rules that are stuck on your door. You are also not allowed to bring unmarried men to your room (I guess married men and unmarried women are not a problem???)
And the price, totally insane so expensive. I have slept in better hotels for a third of the price. OF course, no refund.......for this hotel is about greed and not about hospitality.
The grounds and building are in a deplorable state. And they look nothing like the photos in their presentation.
The only two good points about this hotel:
1. Location, if you are not a surfer, it is really close to a nice bay with excellent swimming water and lots of nice restaurants on the beach. For the rest, it is far from everything.
2. the very best thing about this hotel: you can check out, or even better: not book it and look for better value for your money.

Amazing
I loved how it was traditional and had a lot of culture. Also they had a great pool and Service. And I loved their pet rule because I could bring my dog Sofia. It is close to everything witch is so convenient. And I totally recommend it for your next vacation.
